1. What is the difference between a FAMILLY and a COUPLE’S basket? The main difference is usually with regards to quantity and occasionnaly with diversity. In effect, a familly basket will generally contain twice the quantity of the same items as found in a couple’s basket even though the price is not double that of a couple’s basket. For other items you will find 1.5 x the quantity of the couple’s basket. It is possible to modify the format of your basket during the year in order to adjust the quantities to your needs.

2. Are organic vegetables really more expensive? YES and NO! Yes, if we consider them per unit. No because your organic vegetable basket, from Les Jardins de la Montagne, averaged out over the entire year, will cost you less than the same quantity of conventionnal (with chemicals) vegetables bought throughtout the year in a supermarket.

3. I am alone, do you have a basket format for one person? No, but if you eat a lot of vegetables, you can take a couple’s basket or you could share a family basket with someone else you know who would be interested. The familly basket is well suited for dividing between two households because a lot of the items are doubled. We strongly advise against sharing a couple’s basket because it is very hard to split many of the items in half (ex. a lettuce or a melon)

4. What happens if I forget to come pick-up my basket? Unfortunatelly, it is not possible for us to replace the basket the following week or to deliver your basket at another drop off point or at the farm. It is not bad faith on our part, but you have to understand that we have limited places in the delivery trucks, the production for one week is not necessarely the same the following week and at the farm we do not have the staff to answer people who would come pick-up their baskets, which would end up being like delivering baskets 7 days a week at any time. Believe us, we have been through that experience in the past. But, your basket is not completely lost because it is rapidly forwarded to a local food bank in your community. Furthermore, asking the people responsible for the drop off points, who do this as a service to their community by lending their garage (or house) and giving their time to do so, to keep and give out baskets outside the regular delivery hours is really too much to ask.

5. What happens if I go on vacations for 2 weeks during the summer or the winter? If such is the case, register for 46 weeks instead of 48. But you have to remember to let us know at least 1 week in advance of the deliveries you will skip so that we do not prepare your baskets on those weeks. N.B. A Forgotten basket does not count as a vacation basket since we made it and it was redirected to a food bank.
What if I leave for a longer period of time, let’s say 3 or 4 weeks for example… You can give or sell those baskets to family or friends which will come pick them up in your name or as many people do, ask us to forward them to a food bank in your name, which we will gladly do.

6. Do you offer a home delivery service? Yes, we do. For more information, please call 514-975-5358.

7. Are we sure to receive all the vegetables that you say you grow on your list? Unfortunatelly, no. In effect, because of the very large variety that we grow, it sometimes happens depending of how the season unfolds, that certain species will not reach maturity. However other vegetables will generally compensate. We try as much as possible to balance things out.

8. Can I choose what will be in my basket? No, in CSA, the content of basket is uniform, the same for everyone according to what is available in season.

9. What happens when there are vegetables that I don’t like or that I cannot eat in my basket? IN SUMMER there is an exchange basket available at each service points. You give the vegetable you do not want to the person responsible and he/she will give you something else of equivalent value as much as possible. N.B. There is no exchange for fresh herbs. IN WINTER, your may indicate 3 substitutions on a form we will provide for you in the Fall (more explanations in the section content of organic baskets).

10. Is it possible to come help you at the farm? Yes certainly. You simply need to contact us and according to your schedule and what is happening on the farm we will let you know the best time to come.

11. During the summer, are the content and the quantity of vegetables always the same each week? No, the price of each share is averaged out over the entire year. During summer, the first few baskets (according to how the growing season is unfolding) are generally a little smaller but they will grow gradually as the season progresses. But, over the entire year your organic basket represents a definite saving over buying the same quantity of conventional vegetables in a supermarket.
